Mundine likely to face easy time | 11.11.2008 | |
ENIGMATIC Anthony Mundine appears to have another easy assignment looming on Wednesday night as he bides his time for another boxing world title opportunity.Mundine, who has twice held a version of the WBA super middleweight title, will fight unheralded Uruguayan Rafael Sosa Pintos at Sydney`s EG Whitlam Centre.
The 33-year-old Australian, who is now campaigning at middleweight, is presently the No.2 contender for the WBA title held by German Felix Sturm.
While he has been one of Australia`s busier elite boxers this year, Mundine has again seemingly hand picked a less than threatening opponent.
For his fourth bout of 2008, Mundine has chosen a 28-year-old with little international experience.
Pintos has an outwardly impressive record of 31-2, but his losses came in his only two previous overseas engagements.
He has fought only one immediately recognisable world class opponent in world ranked Khoren Gevor, who outpointed him over eight rounds.
The IBO, which has arguably the deepest and most accurate rankings in boxing, rates Pintos as only their 62nd best middleweight.
The Uruguayan has fought primarily in six and eight round bouts and has logged only 12 knockouts in his professional career.
Mundine has boosted his record to 33-3 with 23 KOs after winning his last 10 fights and has impressed critics with his dazzling speed.
However, his reluctance to fight a better standard of opponent has frustrated and mystified plenty of boxing pundits.
The bout is scheduled for 10 rounds.
