One thing I have noticed with civil libertarians like Terry O'Gorman and Co, who are generally despised by the majority of us, is that they NEVER volunteer to have people like Fergusson move in with them and their children/grandchildren, to help in their rehabilitation back into society. Why is that Terry????

Nice one Kev, glad to see some support for communities who have to put up with these "people". He`s probably commented on this as its his home state and I thank him for it. I have to disagree with some comments saying this causes vigilantism. I think it does the exact opposite. Telling residents where pedophiles prevents them finding out by themselves which would infuriate most people.

Another intrusion into matters which are the normal province of the States - yesterday it was water, this time it's police and justice. This man is portraying himself as a megalomaniac control freak who wants to rewrite the Constitution all by himself!

RUN out of one town, pedophile Dennis Ferguson was in hiding again tonight as Prime Minister Kevin Rudd backed a community`s right to know the whereabouts of child sex offenders.

The 60-year-old was last night whisked away from a rural property near Miles, about 120 km northwest of Dalby, after around 60 people gathered outside to protest his presence.

It is the third time Ferguson has been run out of accommodation in recent years and he is suing a man who led a 2005 effort to chase him out of Ipswich for criminal compensation.

Police were tonight monitoring Ferguson at a second secret location following his release on Tuesday by a judge who ruled he would not get a fair trial on new sex charges.

Premier Anna Bligh said she was confident Queensland police could manage his accommodation, which was at his own, not taxpayer`s expense.

"I think the Queensland Police Service have done everything in their power over the last couple of days to try and reassure the community that they are monitoring this person, that there is no risk to that community, but these are difficult issues," she said.

Ms Bligh admitted she wished Ferguson was not Queensland`s problem, but said moving him interstate was not a solution.

"As much as I wish the Dennis Ferguson issue might just disappear, it would be irresponsible, I think, for Queensland to start encouraging people from other parts of the country to be dumping their problems on us," she said.

She did not agree with Queensland Council of Civil Liberties vice president Terry O`Gorman that the government`s handling of Ferguson had been "limp wristed".

Nor did she agree there was a need for a change to the law "in light of a media-inspired mob" driving him out of his temporary home.

Ms Bligh said people had a right to protest and that the media had, for the most part, acted responsibly.

But the episode has sparked debate.

Mr Rudd today said people had a right to know when pedophiles moved in.

While not commenting specifically on Ferguson`s case, Mr Rudd said: "I believe that this is a most sensitive, difficult area and these are sensitive, difficult decisions to be made by the authorities.

"But I think as a general principle the community does have a right to know."

District Court judge Hugh Botting`s full judgment was released today.

It cited both politicians and the media for a long list of negative descriptions of Ferguson, including "well known pedophile", "notorious pedophile", "unrepentant", "considered unrehabilitated" and "convicted child molester".

Human rights lawyer Greg Barns said Mr Rudd`s comments proved the point Judge Botting was making when he said Ferguson would not be able to get a fair trial.

"I think in a court of appeal they would have got some terrific ammunition almost in the form of new evidence in someways," Mr Barns told ABC Radio.

"Exhibit one would be the Gold Coast Bulletin with its `Dob in a monster` headline.

"Exhibit two would be Kevin Rudd`s comments today which is effectively having the Prime Minister of Australia endorsing a view in the community that Mr Ferguson is guilty rather than innocent and someone you should be wary of."
