A BOMB killed six children and wounded 12 some of them critically, when it exploded in central Afghanistan today, a local official said.
The roadside bomb was apparently planted by Taliban rebels to target Afghan and foreign troops, Abdul Rahim Daisiwal, governor of Andar district in Ghazni province, said.
"Six children were killed and 12 were wounded in the blast. Some of the wounded are in critical condition,`` he said.
The bomb was on the side of a dirt road. The children from Sardar village started playing with the explosives and they went off, Mr Daisiwal said.
The governor said he believed the explosives were planted recently by the Taliban and were not old ordnance left over from years of war.
Unexploded littering Afghanistan following the country`s resistance against Soviet occupation has killed hundreds of children over the years.
