I think the ride is over for Clinton and that's a good thing for the Democrats. Senator Clinton is hanging on by the skin of her teeth and I think it's all about to finish very soon. McCain will not win the Presential election which is quite sad for him as he should have won G.W. Bush's nomination back in 2001 - and he would have been twice the president that GW is. McCain's nomination is 10 years too late (he's seen as too old to move with the times) and is now seen as GW Bush copy (which is actually far from the truth - but hey the Reprublicans aren't going to win this election). I doubt Clinton will accept an offer the nomination as the Vice President candidate and pre-empt an offer before Obama has to propose it (I'm sure he doesn't want her as his VP running buddy - too much blood has been spilt between them). John Edwards will probably be offered the VP nomination. Getting interesting now. Obama - the new African American Kennedy.

everyone research the voting machines in OHIO and what happened there..... Everyone should know. This is not a leftist conspiracy as even right wingers voiced concern. USA has not been a democracy since Florida 2000.

BARACK Obama will not quite say it yet, but he has now unofficially started campaigning as the Democratic nominee for the US presidential election.

Two more states voted today in the marathon race. Hillary Clinton easily won the Kentucky primary, another white, working class state, while Senator Obama was projected as the winner in the Oregon primary.

But instead of being in either of those states, Senator Obama chose to return to Iowa to announce that he had won a majority of pledged delegates in the race. While he stopped short of claiming overall victory, he used his speech to clearly launch his general election campaign against Republican John McCain.

"It`s clear that tonight we have reached a major milestone on this journey," he wrote to supporters before taking the stage in Iowa. "We have won an absolute majority of all the delegates chosen by the people."

In her victory speech in Kentucky, where exit polls showed nine in 10 voters were white, Senator Clinton indicated she will fight on. "This is one of the closest races for a party`s nomination in recent history. I`m more determined than ever to see that every vote is cast and every ballot is counted," she said to chants of `Hill-a-ry! Hill-a-ry!`.

Asked earlier if she would quit today, she said: "not a chance". But in her speech she hinted that she may see the writing on the wall that her time is nearly at an end, saying that both she and Senator Obama "do see eye to eye when it comes to uniting our party and electing a Democratic president".

Senator Obama`s Iowa appearance was heavily symbolic as it was the scene of his breakthrough win in the first vote of the race that propelled him to the front of the pack. He said his return there was part of his campaign "coming full circle".

"You have put us within reach of the Democratic nomination for president of the United States," he told supporters.

It was reported yesterday that he would use that symbolism to claim overall victory in the Democratic nomination race, but today the Obama camp is striking a more cautious tone. "I just see this as a major step. It`s not the end," an Obama supporter has said.

Reports from the US suggested that the Obama camp may have been seeking to avoid antagonising the combative Clinton campaign.

Senator Obama could still be about 50 delegates short of the 2026 needed to automatically secure the nomination at the Democratic convention in August. But he is using the milestone to send a clear message to undecided superdelegates - party officials who can back any candidate - to back him.

Senator Obama contends those undecided superdelegates, who have been trending his way heavily in recent weeks, should support him because he won the most delegates in state voting.

Senator Clinton says superdelegates should reconsider their decisions because she would be a stronger foe for Senator McCain, an Arizona senator. Her victories in big states like Pennsylvania and Ohio gave her a broader base of support than Senator Obama, she said.

Her supporters say the size of her victories in recent votes - around 30 points today and more than 40 points in the West Virginia primary last week - should raise doubts among superdelegates about Senator Obama`s ability to win over working class voters.

But the Obama camp says that once the campaign against the Republicans begins, he can start addressing his own strengths rather than Senator Clinton`s weaknesses. When he does that, they say, voters will be won over.

Senator Clinton`s next move is to convince the party to count the votes held in Michigan and Florida, which have not been counted because those states held primaries early in breach of the rules.

Senator Clinton won both states but no candidate campaigned in either. Senator Obama`s name was not on the ballot in Michigan.

The next vote takes place next Wednesday (Australian time) in Idaho.
