can anyone tell me how our roads affect horse shoes? I dont mean to sound too silly but my dad rode a horse to school, his dad took the horse and cart to market, and my great grandfather emigrated from England by Sail ship, bullock train and horse back. Last I checked they all were as human as we, and I am here because of them, so how is it that oil is the be all and end all of civilization. I am not talking about civilization as we know it ending either, that ends with every new technology we foolishly adopt.

because we all continue to rely so heavily on our cars to get around and i can understand why many have to rely on cars... the price of oil quite simply won't go down... why don't we all leave our cars at home and use public transport... i know this is impractical for most but we shouldn't expect petrol to go down unless we all act in unison and leave our cars at home so the demand for crude oil decreases... but what are the chances of that happening??

Andrew - even a cappuccino and a sandwich at Heathrow came to 11 pounds! Thats over 25 bucks! Crazy! And the cappuccino sucked! So I seriously doubt your claim on the 30 or even 50 pounds for a meal in a restuarant?? I was talking a meal for two not one.

  • Petrol in Adelaide selling for $162.9c per litre
  • Diesel prices also up, nudging $1.80
  • Fuel being driven up by record high oil prices

PETROL prices have broken through the $1.60-a-litre barrier in some capital cities this afternoon as world oil prices trade at an all-time record high.

AdelaideNow reports the petrol price in the city is 162.9c per litre, according to fuel monitoring website MotorMouth.

The Herald Sun reported unleaded petrol hit the same price of $1.62c at some service stations today.

However, the fuel is still available for as little as 140.3c at some Adelaide service stations.

Diesel prices also have shot up also, nudging $1.80.

The spike comes after world oil prices traded at a record $US129 a barrel in Asian trade today, driven by concerns over tight global supplies amid strong demand.

Oil struck an all-time high of $US129.60 overnight, before expiring at $US129.07 at the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Tipped to rise further?

The average price of unleaded petrol in the South Australian capital is sitting at 147.9c, but is expected to go higher tomorrow as service stations increase their prices in the lead-up to the most expensive day of the "discount" cycle.

RACV spokesman David Cumming told the Herald Sun the price jump was excessive and would probably not be sustainable.

"They always go to an excessively high level before they bring it back to a more reasonable price,`` he said.
