not giving a rats about the results of every damn primary and not caring about every little word uttered or twitch made by a POTENTIAL candidate is different to not understanding the ramifications. i'll care AFTER the election. we dont vote over there so until a decision is made WHO CARES? Hell, Puerto Tico DONT EVEN VOTE in the presidential election. if you must watch every detail of the AMERICAN political system surely AMERICA has a million and one journalists and commentators covering the storiesin more detail with more knowledge of the situation. dont even try and pretend that you can impact the result by pretending to be interested.

the primary voting system in the u.s. makes it even more importent for us in australia.We must have a firm and detailedproposal as to how a republic in Australia will be run. Do not vote for the simple question whether or not we want to be a republic. Have facts as to how a republic will operate first.

HILLARY Clinton has won the Democratic primary in Puerto Rico today, but still badly trails front-runner Barack Obama as he draws closer to clinching the party`s presidential nomination.

Senator Clinton`s 30-point win in a territory that has 55 delegates to the August nominating convention but is not allowed to vote in the November US presidential election, gave her more fuel for her argument that she is the best Democrat to face Republican John McCain.

"Which candidate is best able to lead us to victory in November?" she said after her win in a message meant for superdelegates. "I`m in this race because I believe I am that candidate and I will be that president."

But the results pushed Senator Obama closer to the magic number of 2118 delegates needed to become the nominee, and the Illinois senator already has turned his attention to a general election fight with Senator McCain.

Two contests on Wednesday in Montana and South Dakota, with 31 pledged delegates at stake, conclude the voting in the Democratic presidential race. Senator Obama is expected to proclaim himself the nominee after those primaries.

Speaking to supporters in South Dakota, Senator Obama said he had congratulated Senator Clinton on today`s win and praised her as an "outstanding public servant". But he quickly turned his attention back to the Republicans and November.

"Whatever differences Senator Clinton and I may have, look, those differences pale in comparison to the other side," he said.

Before the Puerto Rico vote, Senator Obama was about 70 delegates shy of clinching the nomination. He probably will still be short on Wednesday, but could reach the total quickly with the help of some of the approximately 180 uncommitted superdelegates - party officials who can back any candidate.

Senator Obama cleared a significant hurdle yesterday when a party committee dealt Senator Clinton a blow by seating the disputed Michigan and Florida convention delegations at half-strength.

The decision by the rules committee was a victory for Senator Obama, preventing Senator Clinton from significantly cutting his delegate lead. Senator Clinton had won both disputed contests and demanded the delegations be seated at full voting strength.

"Now that Michigan and Florida have been added, we are getting close to the number that will give us the nomination," Senator Obama said in South Dakota after the rules committee meeting.

"And if we`ve hit that number on Tuesday night we will announce that, and I think even if we don`t, this is the end of the primary season," the Illinois senator said.

The Clinton campaign said it planned to continue the fight, possibly all the way to the national convention in Denver, and try to woo superdelegates on the claim the New York senator won more primary votes and was beating Senator Obama in states Democrats need to win to claim the White House from Senator McCain.
