MORE dark secrets have been revealed in a former children`s home in Jersey with a chilling message found in a secret underground chamber.

The first photo of a "punishment room" at Haut de la Garenne in the Channel Islands showed graffiti on a wall saying "I`ve been bad for years and years", the Associated Press reported.

Deputy Police Chief Lenny Harper doesn`t know who wrote the haunting verse found in the chamber, or when it was put there.

Police announced today that more "items" found at the same site where part of a child`s skull was discovered on February 23, could be human remains.

"We continued to excavate the first site at the house and have taken out a few items," deputy Harper said.

"It is too early to say what the significance of those are. They`re possibly pieces of bone."

The punishment rooms were used to keep children in solitary confinement where they were drugged, raped and flogged, victims have said.

More than 160 victims have come forward, saying there were abused at the home with allegations dating back more than four decades.

Forensic teams at the site have so far excavated one bricked-up secret cellar. They believe there could be three more,  the Associated Press reported.

Deputy Harper said there were more than 40 suspects in the inquiry. He said a specialist police team was at Jersey`s port in case any tried to escape the island.

Asked if he was any closer to making an arrest, he said: "Suspects are one thing; we need evidence to convict people.

"If we get any evidence that they are trying to leave the island, we have got a team at the ports and we will take the necessary action.``
