  • Paramedics praise boy, say he`s a hero

A THREE-YEAR-OLD Melbourne boy has been hailed a hero for calling 000 when his mother collapsed in an epileptic fit.

Noah Opris rang the emergency services number on Monday and told the operator his mother had fallen and was asleep on the floor, bleeding.

His nine-month-old brother, Zach, was also home at the time.

Police and ambulance officers rushed to the Narre Warren home and found Rebecca Opris unconscious.

She was taken to Dandenong Hospital for treatment.

Emergency services today praised Noah for his actions and nominated him for an Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority Junior Triple Zero Hero Award.

"Noah`s mum was unconscious and if he had not made the emergency call it could have been quite some time before she received medical treatment," said Constable Travis Cusack, who was one of the first to arrive at the house.

"His actions might have saved her life and both he and his family should be very proud."

Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA) spokesman Wayne Debernardi said the 000 operator was keen to nominate Noah for an award.

"This is a positive reminder to teach children at a very young age of what is required in the case of an emergency - call triple-0 and know where the emergency is and what it is," he said in a statement.

Ms Opris, who has now fully recovered and is back home with her children, said she taught Noah how to call emergency services from a young age.

"Since I`ve had the epilepsy, four years ago now, we`ve taught him from then on, and his older brother, so they both know what to do," she told Fairfax Radio Network.
