Rudd says he`s buoyed by prayer

30.05.2008

PRIME Minister Kevin Rudd says he`s needed divine intervention this week.

At the opening of the Mater Mothers` Hospital in Brisbane Mr Rudd said he`d had a difficult week after two damaging leaks critical of his FuelWatch petrol price monitoring scheme.

He said the Sisters of Mercy, who opened the original Mater hospital in Brisbane, had been praying for him.

"I have maintained strong and close contact with the good Sisters of Mercy here in their convent,`` Mr Rudd said.

"They have always kindly borne me in their prayers ... I`ve needed those prayers on the week that`s just past. I appreciate that in particular, and possibly for the week ahead.

"So several extra decades, please.``
