Two dead in army helicopter crash

30.05.2008

A BRITISH army helicopter crashed in fields in north Devon today killing both crew members, the Ministry of Defence said.

The army training helicopter came down in a wooded area in Kingscott, near Torrington, at around 3.45pm (12.45am AEST).

"Sadly, we can confirm that both service personnel on board have died," an MoD spokesman said.

"Our thoughts are with their families and friends at this difficult time. The next of kin are currently being informed. We will confirm further details once this process has been completed."

Devon and Cornwall Police said the crash had not caused any damage to buildings. However, power lines in the area had been brought down but it was not clear if the helicopter was responsible.
