MIDFIELD maestro Mark Bresciano intends on turning a season to forget into a June to remember. The 28-year-old sees Australia`s upcoming four World Cup qualifiers as the perfect chance to forget about his miserable campaign with Italian Serie A club Palermo.
"I had one of my worst seasons (13 starts for just one goal) in my career," Bresciano said. "I`m just hoping for a fresh start."
Bresciano had planned for that new beginning to commence much earlier - August last year in fact.
English Premier League club Manchester City had come knocking for the services of the attacking weapon, with Bresciano thrilled at the prospect of playing under former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.
He was also desperate to leave Italy, having got the fright of his life in February last year when crowd violence erupted in the heated Sicilian derby between Catania and Palermo.
Overcome by tear gas, Bresciano described the incident as "completely terrifying" and made him re-evaluate his previous passion about playing his football in Italy.
Manchester City remains an option, although the whispers are getting louder about West Ham.
"If you asked this type of question four or five years ago, I would have said `I`m in Italy and I want to stay in Italy`," he said.
"But now it`s come to a time where if the right deal`s there, the right club, I would like to move outside of Italy. Mentally I wasn`t there (Palermo) last season, because the deal was basically done with Manchester City."
But the four-year contract worth more than $10 million fell through. "I was in Manchester preparing myself and then all of a sudden I had to go back to where I left. I didn`t really want to go back, so it made it very hard for me," Bresciano said.
