GRETNA have been relegated to the Scottish third division after they were unable to guarantee they could fulfill their fixtures next season.Gretna, who were relegated from the Scottish Premier League this season, after going into administration in March, have now been demoted two further levels after talks at the Scottish Football League`s annual general meeting.
SFL chief executive David Longmuir confirmed that Airdrie would be promoted to division one with Stranraer promoted to division two.
Gretna went into administration after owner Brooks Mileson, who is terminally ill, cut off his supply of cash to the club. The move effectively relegated Gretna as the club was deducted 10 points.
Gretna had enjoyed a rapid rise from the obscurity of non-league football to the SPL under Mileson, who invested £8 million in the club. Gretna also reached the 2006 Scottish Cup final.
The club has a tiny fan base and had to play SPL matches at Fir Park, Motherwell, because its own Raydale Park ground did not meet top-flight standards.
