Parents rally around sacked teacher

Parents rally around sacked teacher

10.05.2008

PARENTS have rallied around a primary school teacher who was suspended from her job after posing naked with her husband and sharing intimate details of their sex life in a women`s magazine.

At least 40 parents have signed a petition to have 24-year-old Lynne Tziolas reinstated to Narraweena Public School on the Northern Beaches after she was called into principal Julie Organ`s office last week and told her year-long contract would be terminated.

A statement released by the NSW Department of Education and Training said Ms Tziolas had been suspended following complaints from "several" parents at the school.

"The school ceased the teachers` engagement and the Department of Education and Training Employee Performance and Conduct Branch is investigating," a Department spokesman said.

An unrepentant Mrs Tziolas said she believed just one parent had complained about the article in Cleo magazine, which she took part in with 45-year-old husband Antonios.

In the article, which appeared in a sealed section titled "Buck naked couples talk about their sex lives", the pair, who have been married for four years, answered questions about how many times they had sex each week, their favourite body parts and the most risque sexual thing they`d done.

"Leaving the blinds up and the lights on, which is all of the time," Mr Tziolas answered.

Mrs Tziolas said she would be launching legal action against the school and added that she was "extremely surprised" that the photo shoot, for which she and her husband were paid just $200, had ended up costing her job.

She said she had taken precautions to ensure her association with the school did not appear in the story.

"We just thought it was a chance to get some lovely photos and I made sure when we went in that I didn`t tell them who I worked for or where I worked," she said.

"My husband and I have had arty shots done before - not ones that have gone public - and we made sure they were done tastefully."

Although she and Mr Tziolas, who is also a teacher, said they would be prepared to pose naked again, they were concerned about the possible ramifications for their careers.

Mrs Tziolas said she was at a loss to explain the NSW Department of Education`s attitude.

"Obviously discussing these sorts of issues in front of children is inappropriate and at no time would I have ever - or have I ever - talked about anything like this in front of them," she said.

"As a teacher, you`re a responsible member of society but you`re allowed to have a life."

He said his wife wanted to return to the same school.

"She would be happy to be reinstated back at Narraweena," he said.

"What we did we both stand by. We would do it again. We were honest.

"Yes, we`re both teachers. Yes, we have sex, and yes, we are loving and committed to each other."
