Millward confirmed as head Cowboy

22.05.2008
NORTH Queensland have confirmed assistant coach Ian Millward`s appointment as head coach for the remainder of the 2008 season.

Former head coach Graham Murray quit on Monday after the Cowboys continued their woeful 2008 season with their fourth loss in succession against Manly last Saturday.

Murray had been told at the start of the season this would be his final year in charge and the Cowboys have since secured Canberra coach Neil Henry on a five-year deal from 2009.

Millward, who ironically will head to the Raiders as an assistant next year, will see out the 2008 season in charge of the Cowboys and attempt to salvage their year as they currently sit in 15th place.

Cowboys chief executive Peter Parr believes that Millward is the ideal man for the short-term role.

"He has immense coaching experience and played a crucial part in last season`s success," Parr said.

"We are only at round 11 so there is plenty of time to regather and put in a strong effort for the business end of the season."
