A NIGHTCLUB security officer is in hospital after being stabbed on the Sunshine Coast early this morning.

Police allege a 31-year-old woman went to the nightclub at the Bay Village Shopping complex on Hastings Street at Noosa armed with a knife around 2.30am (AEST).

She allegedly approached a 30-year-old security officer and spoke to him briefly before producing the knife from her bag and stabbing him.

The security officer suffered a deep wound to the left side of his chest which is believed to have punctured several organs.

He underwent emergency surgery at Nambour Hospital. His condition was this afternoon listed as stable.

The woman has been charged with intending to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawful wounding

She will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates court tomorrow.
