Kanu ... missed a sitter, then scored a sitter. Reuters |
NWANKWO Kanu was a happy man after his strike proved the difference in the FA Cup final and gifted Portsmouth their first piece of silverware since 1939.Never a man short of words, the much-maligned Nigerian striker was not backward in coming forward after his Wembley heroics against Cardiff City.
Here`s a sample of the best:
"I feel good and I feel happy. I`m a player`s player. This is the best moment of my life."
"To score and win the cup for the first time since 1939 is incredible. I have won the cup before (with Arsenal) but this time it is different because I am the hero. It is in the top three trophies I have won."
"A lot of people put Kanu down. You shouldn`t put Kanu down because I have the talent. That is what God gave me. I keep on going."
"Every country in the world watches this game. It makes me very proud. We are in the history books now."
"I love the supporters and I want to be part of the team that plays in the UEFA Cup."
"Being in Europe means a lot to the players because most of them haven`t been there or won medals."
And ... Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp on Kanu:
"Kanu has been fantastic for us. That`s a semi-final and a final he has won with his goals and yet when I signed him at the start of last season on a free transfer from West Brom people said I was mad."
