TELEVISON star Ray Martin was reportedly told by Channel Nine`s CEO that if he refused to host the Sunday program, he would not have a job.
In a meeting last month, Nine boss David Gyngell told the famous journalist that he had no choice but to host the current affairs program or leave the network, according to a
report on The Australian website today.

“Gyngell did not want him to go back to being a highly-paid floating reporter, doing ad hoc work for 60 Minutes or Sunday and hosting the Christmas Carols once a year,” The Australian reported.

“Martin was “gobsmacked” by the ultimatum, sources told Diary, and negotiations went on all week.

“There was no animosity as Gyngell and Martin liked each other but the time had come for Martin to move on.”

Martin announced that he was quitting the network yesterday, fuelling rumours that he had become disgruntled with Nine’s management.

Martin was reportedly paid between $1.2 and $1.4 million while hosting the Sunday program.
