THREE-time world footballer of the year Zinedine Zidane is
on his way to Australia with a star-studded international team to play an exhibition match at Sydney Football Stadium on June 1.

Zidane will lead a team featuring a number of his teammates from the French side that won the 1998 World Cup, including Marcel Desailly and Robert Pires, along with Danish international Jesper Olsen and Switzerland`s Flavio Celestini.

The team, managed by France`s World Cup winning coach Aime Jacquet, will take on a side composed of stars from Australia`s 1997 World Cup qualifying squad including Paul Okon, Tony Vidmar, Craig Foster and Stan Lazaridis and coached by Frank Farina.

Australia`s 1997 campaign ended in a heart-breaking elimination at the final qualifying hurdle against Iran in Melbourne.

Socceroo Tim Cahill, recovering from a foot operation, described Zidane`s visit as the "biggest dream ever".

"David Beckham was here (in Sydney) recently and he`s one of the most iconic and marketable players in the world," Cahill said.

"But `Zizou` is one of the biggest players in the world. He is poetry in motion, and he so passionate about football.

"What a special opportunity this is for Australian kids to see him."

Zidane will conduct a coaching clinic for youngsters at the SFS the following day from 3-5pm.

Promoter Alain Barataud said kids were the key to getting the French great to Australia.

"Once he found out it was for kids, he said OK, no problem, and he is donating his services for free," Barataud said.

Another key was the fact that Zidane was already coming to the region.

He will be playing in a testimonial match for former French teammate Christian Karembeu in Noumea two days before the Sydney exhibition.

Zidane, 36, famously blotted his copybook when he was red carded for head butting an Italian opponent in retaliation for verbal taunts near the end of the 2006 World Cup final in Germany.

The US has already got troops in every country surrounding Iran. The USAF and Navy are moving massive forces to Guam to counter China's influence as well. Now do the math. McCain will be PUSA as there is too much at stake for him not to be and most half intelligent American's know it becuase they are seeing the price of gasoline skyrocket. Americans know that they are essentially looting resources from others all around the world and flexing their military might to do it. The question is, when it comes to the ballot box, do they really care? In the main don't think so, so bank on McCain being president because he's easily won his nomination on a pro war platform. Remeber, American's aren't anti-war, they are anti losing a war. They believe McCain can help them win back lost prestige and keep the good times rolling.

JOHN McCain is the Republican nominee for the US presidential election, killing off challenger Mike Huckabee`s campaign with wins in today`s Ohio and Texas primaries.

The wins gave Senator McCain a clean sweep of the day - dubbed Super Tuesday II in the US - after his earlier victories in Vermont and Rhode Island.

"Now we begin the most important part of our campaign," Senator McCain has told cheering supporters.  "Stand up with me, my friends.  Stand up and fight for America."

Mr Huckabee has conceded defeat to Senator McCain, promising to fully support his bid for the White House. (Video)

He called Senator McCain an "honourable man" and said he had also run his own race "with honour".  "My commitment to him and the party is to do everything possible to unite our party but more important to unite our country so that we can be the best we can be."

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton has fended off oblivion by winning in Ohio.  The Texas results is still unclear.

Earlier, Barack Obama won Vermont, while Senator Clinton won Rhode Island.

Whichever Democratic candidate emerges victorious will face the 71-year-old former PoW in the November general election.

Senator McCain took a thinly-veiled swipe at his opponents in his victory speech, saying he had never considered himself destined to be president of the United States.  He has used similar lines to criticise the wave of "Obamamania" surrounding Senator Obama`s campaign.

"Our campaign must be and will be more than another tired debate of false promises, empty sound bites or useless arguments from the past that address not a single American`s concerns for their family`s security," he said.

He said voters in the US were tired of "politicians who value ambition over principle, and for partisanship that is less a contest of ideas than an uncivil brawl over the spoils of power".

He also tackled head-on the issue that could prove his undoing in the election - Iraq.  He said he would continue to defend his support for the war and also continue to criticise the poor strategy of the US occupation.

Senator McCain acknowledged to reporters following him on the campaign trail that if the situation in Iraq returns to its darkest days between now and election day "then I lose".

It has been reported in the US media that Senator McCain plans to visit the White House and Republican National Committee tomorrow.  He will then receive the official endorsement of President George W. Bush.

In an interview last month with Fox News, Mr Bush said Senator McCain was a "true conservative".

But he acknowledged, "I think that if John is the nominee, he has got some convincing to do to convince people that he is a solid conservative, and I`ll be glad to help him if he is the nominee."

Senator McCain`s campaign was floundering only a few months ago, as he battled to convince the Republican conservative base that he was the best candidate for the party.

His views on immigration, the environment and other issues have put him at odds with his own party throughout his career.

But the campaign was rescued from oblivion as the Iraq "surge" - something Senator McCain had been a strong advocate of - began reducing sectarian violence.  He also gained strength as other challengers including Rudy Giuliani faltered.

A recent article by the New York Times reported an alleged "inappropriate relationship" with a female lobbyist was seen as coalescing conservative support around the senator.
