25 Tibetans arrested in Mumbai

17.04.2008

ABOUT 25 Tibetans were arrested in India`s financial capital Mumbai today as they tried to storm the Chinese consulate.

The protest came amid nationwide demonstrations by Tibetan exiles coinciding with the India leg of the Beijing Olympics torch relay, which is set to take place under tight security in the capital New Delhi.

"We have detained nearly 25 people from outside the consulate, our vigil will continue through the day," a Mumbai police official said.

Protests against China`s rule of Tibet have been reported across India, which is home to at least 100,000 Tibetan refugees including exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.
