GREGORY Bourdy has tightened his grip on the European PGA Tour Portuguese Open title by opening a four-shot lead in the third round.Bourdy, who smashed the course record with a sensational 63 in the first round at the Oitavos Dunes course, carded a third-round 68 to stand atop the leaderboard at 17-under-par 196.
Alastair Forsyth, who won the Madeira Islands Open two weeks ago, meanwhile moved into second place with a 66 for a 13-under total of 200, while Charl Schwartzel was equal third, one shot back, with Miles Tunnicliff, who became the fourth player to card a 63 this week.
Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, David Howell, Soren Kjeldsen, Rory McIlroy and Lee Slattery are all on 11 under par to share fifth place.
Bourdy suffered a bogey on the 4th hole - his first dropped shot of the week - but the 25-year-old Frenchman roared back with an eagle three on the 7th and a birdie on the 8th.
"I made my first bogey of the week on the 4th so the first few holes were difficult and I didn`t play my game," Bourdy said.
"But after that I was a bit more relaxed and I made the eagle on the 7th and the birdie on the 8th, and after that I was able to my game."
Forsyth, looking for a second win in Portugal this year, was happy with his five-under-par round.
"I played well in Madeira and did OK last week (in Mallorca) as well and fortunately I have been able to carry that form into this week," Forsyth said.
"Right from the start I had a good round on Thursday, kept it going yesterday and then again today.
"I lipped out about four times today but I`m not going to complain too much with five under." Agence France-Presse |
