Isn't he lucky he was able to use a foreign military's medical facilities to help his son, could'nt have happened if the Taliban were still in charge.

A YOUNG boy who walked into a military field hospital with a knife embedded in his brain has been saved by a British surgical team.

An amazing X-ray shows how the 7.6cm blade pierced behind the 10-year-old`s eye and penetrated the front of his brain.

The youngster, who has not been named, was attacked by a customer at his father`s store in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

But his life was saved when his father took him to a British military field hospital and begged Territorial Army medics to help his son.

Surgeons of 212 Field Hospital operated the same night, before handing over to 208 Field Hospital, who administered the aftercare, British newspapers reported today.

Major Stephen Gallacher, 49, senior A&E nurse of 208 Field Hospital, told the media: "It was a horrendous sight. I just didn`t think he would survive.

"But he was soon off the life-support machine and was up and about within days. It was just amazing."

The operation happened last July, but details and the stunning photo have only just been released.

Major Gallacher said: "We knew how the knife was sitting because we had the X-ray. The knife had come in at an angle and gone down behind his eye and had penetrated the front of his brain.

"To have simply pulled the knife out would have been a disaster because you wouldn`t have known what damage was behind it."
