THE Gabba streaker whose nude dash was stopped short by an angry Andrew Symonds has proved crime does pay after apparently making $7500 from Channel 9.

Despite copping a $1500 fine in the Brisbane Magistrate`s Court, Robert Murray David Ogilvie`s best mate said he finished up $6000 on top after selling his story to A Current Affair.

Channel 9, which broadcasts the cricket, has denied the payment, claiming it had the same interview as everyone else.

The network is also alleged to have paid for Mr Ogilvie to fly business class to Adelaide, where he is working in the mining industry.

Pal Dave Richardson, who lives two doors from Mr Ogilvie in Brisbane, insists the money was transferred electronically and the streaker would not speak to the program`s journalist until he had checked his bank account.

"He`s walked out with $6000 in his pocket so to speak,`` he said. "It was a very profitable day.``

Mr Richardson said it was not the first time Mr Ogilvie had stripped and probably it would not be the last.

"He is a serial streaker. Not at sporting events, but at the end of the night on the beers, he will go for a run up the street in the nude,`` he said.

He said he was glad he wasn`t at the cricket when Mr Ogilvie ditched his clothes and charged the pitch.

"Because I would have been there with him,`` Mr Richardson said.

Mr Ogilvie pleaded guilty in Brisbane Magistrate`s Court on Tuesday to interfering with a person engaged in sport and wilful exposure.

Outside court, he said being shoulder-charged by Symonds was "great, actually``.

His action has prompted debate on security at Australian cricket grounds, with Queensland Cricket boss Graham Dixon warning the Gabba could lose matches if spectators continued to interrupt play.

Queensland Attorney-General Kerry Shine did not respond to calls from The Courier-Mail. Mr Ogilvie was unavailable for comment.
