Iran is definately a threat to the world...A very unstable and fanatically radical leader is a reciept for conflict. With the cash strapped Russia in bed with them also for their cheap oil, I hold concerns for Iraq if the USA was to leave there. It is well known that those 2 nations hate each other, hence their 10 year war in which many millions were killed and only seperated by a thin stretch of Gulf water. Coupled by their threats against Isralies and the fact that there is no doubt that Iran is manufacturing an Atomic Energy program, while secretly enriching its Uranium for weapons. If you think that Israel will allow them to continue to have nuclear capability, then think again...and I wouldnt blame them one little bit if they were to flatten those evil nuclear complexes.

US President George W. Bush said he saw a historic opportunity for Middle East peace as he began a tour of the region today, but warned that archfoe Iran was a threat to the world.

Mr Bush, who is seeking to score a foreign policy triumph in his last year in office, said he hoped to see a deal to end decades of Israeli-Palestinian conflict by the time he leaves office in January 2009.

"It`s a historic opportunity to work for peace," Mr Bush said after talks with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on his first visit as president, where he was greeted with a red-carpet welcome and a mammoth security operation.

"I`m very hopeful," he said, but warned there were tough decisions and painful compromises to make on both sides if they were to achieve the goal of two states living side by side in peace this year.

Negotiations were relaunched at a US conference six weeks ago but have since faltered amid mounting violence between Israel and Gaza militants, and Jewish settlement activity on occupied Palestinian land.

But Mr Bush also launched a fresh verbal attack against Iran amid escalating tensions over a naval standoff in the Gulf at the weekend and US charges that it is seeking to build a nuclear bomb.

"Iran is a threat to world peace," Mr Bush declared. "Iran was a threat, Iran is a threat and Iran will be threat to world peace if the international community does not come together and prevent that nation from the development of the know how to develop build a nuclear weapon," he said.

A weekend confrontation between Iranian vessels and US warships in the strategic Strait of Hormuz that has further inflamed a standoff over Tehran`s nuclear program.

Mr Bush warned Tehran of "serious consequences" if Iran attacked US ships and said "all options are on the table to protect our assets".

The Pentagon released a video and audiotape to back up its charge that Iranian speedboats swarmed around three US warships and radioed a threat to blow them up. Iran retorted that it was a "clumsy" fabrication.

An Israeli official had said Mr Olmert would present Mr Bush with new Israeli material which would challenge the findings of a US intelligence report in December which found Tehran had abandoned its clandestine nuclear weapons program in 2003.

Mr Olmert meanwhile said Israel and the Palestinians will be unable to reach peace as long as Gaza militants continued their attacks, but vowed that his government was committed to continuing peace talks.

Mr Bush told Mr Olmert that Israel must remove wildcat outposts in occupied Palestinian territories - although the international community considers all Israeli settlements illegal - something Mr Olmert pledged to do.

Israeli President Shimon Peres, a Nobel peace laureate, said 2008 would be a "moment of truth" but said "stopping the madness of Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas" was key in advancing peacemaking.

Mr Olmert had hailed Mr Bush as Israel`s "strongest and most trusted ally in the battle against terrorism", and said the bond between their two nations was "unshakeable".

But the visit has provoked the ire of Israeli and American foes in the region, with thousands of Hamas supporters taking to the streets of Gaza to denounce Bush as the "butcher of the world".
Angry protesters burned American and Israeli flags and effigies of Mr Bush and Mr Olmert, including a portrait of Mr Bush with the caption2 "War Criminal Go Home".

Israel and the West consider Hamas a terrorist organisation and have sought to isolate the territory with a strict sanctions regime while Bush as sought to bolster the the rule of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Tomorrow Mr Bush will travel to Mr Abbas`s headquarters in Ramallah, where thousands of security forces will impose a virtual curfew for his protection.

On the eve of Mr Bush`s visit, Mr Olmert and Mr Abbas agreed to start negotiations on key issues at the heart of their conflict - borders, Jewish settlements, Jerusalem and refugees - at a meeting aimed at revitalising the hobbled talks.

But violence continued to simmer, with Israeli troops killing a Gaza militant and two Palestinian civilians, and gunmen launching 11 rockets and mortar shells into Israel.
