  • Twins` gran caring for four siblings
  • Says she wants them to know they`re wanted
  • Parents` charges may be changed after post-mortems

THE grandmother of the 18-month-old twins found dead in a Brisbane house says the family has been deeply traumatised by the tragedy.

The woman, who can`t be named, is now caring for her daughter`s four older children, The Courier-Mail reports.

She said she and her husband wanted to keep the children together.

"We just want to love them and let them know they`re wanted", she said.

The results of a post mortem examination on the little girl and boy - who each weighed about the same as a newborn baby - may not be known for some time.

The infants` parents, from Sunnybank Hills, have been charged with two counts each of failing to supply the necessaries of life dating back to October 1.

They have refused to be psychiatrically assessed over the death of twins.

Magistrate Noel Nunan yesterday agreed to keep the couple in custody for 48 hours while awaiting the post-mortem results, which could determine whether the couple`s charges will be upgraded to manslaughter or murder.

It`s believed the twins died about a week before they were found. The boy and girl weighed just 3.6kg and 4kg.

"I don`t think I fed them enough," the mother of six allegedly told officers when asked why her children had died.
