New direction ... Rachel Hunter launches her new swimwear range, Lola in Sydney / The Daily Telegraph |
IN troubling news for models everywhere, it turns out Rachel Hunter has done an about face on an earlier claim that only models should model.
The Kiwi supermodel flew into Sydney yesterday to launch the ladies range, Lola, during a swank party at Darling Harbour nightspot The Loft last night.
But despite blasting Sports Illustrated and other magazines last week for whacking non-models on their covers, she refused to rule out eventually doing the same thing to promote her swimwear.
"I`m kind of caught in the middle," Hunter confessed.
"As much as I am a believer in there always being a place for models, this is a business and you have to relate more to the ways things are changing.
"I want models to still have a job, but it would be great to see other people - surfers and swimmers -become involved in the campaign too."
The former Mrs Rod Stewart - to host a charity dinner for Sydney`s Children`s Hostpital, Westmead tonight - also revealed she hoped the budding business would allow her to spend a greater amount of time in the "more relaxed" southern hemisphere.
But with her two children to the rocker already starting their education in La La Land, the 37-year-old has ruled out a permanent return to the land of the long white cloud - though insisted her kids had enjoyed journeying to her former homeland.
"They`re actually in New Zealand now ... they`re with my sister ... they`re finding it very different," she revealed.
"My son went into a store the other day and said: `Mum, I`ve got no shoes on`. I said: `It doesn`t matter, we`re in New Zealand`."
