FIVE Russian children were killed today when a staircase collapsed at a school near the Urals Mountains city of Orenburg, news agencies reported, citing officials.

Eight more people remained buried under the rubble at the school in Belyayevka, a village in the Orenburg region, Interfax and RIA Novosti reported, citing Russia`s emergency situation ministry.
