AN angry woman threw a clothes horse across a room, penetrating the skull of her 20-month-old grandson, a Melbourne court has heard.
Victoria Sumner, 52, was arguing with her son when she picked up a plastic-coated clothes horse and threw it across the lounge room.
It struck baby Tyrhys in the head.
The Victorian County Court heard today the clothes horse penetrated the baby`s skull, causing part of his brain to protrude. It is believed Sumner then tried to pull the clothes horse out of his skull, the court heard.
The baby was in hospital for a month and has an acquired brain injury, the prosecution said.
Sumner, of the Melbourne suburb of Reservoir, has pleaded guilty to negligently causing serious injury.
The pre-sentence hearing before Judge Christine Thornton is continuing.
