Bryant looking for 100 omen

30.09.2008
MARK Bryant isn`t superstitious but he hopes there is an omen in the fact his 100th NRL game falls on the grand final for the 100th year of rugby league.

The Manly bench forward will chalk up the century in his final game for the Sea Eagles this Sunday before taking up a three-year deal with new Super League club the Celtic Crusaders.

Bryant is one of three Manly players bidding farewell after the grand final with teammates Steve Bell (Catalans) and Steve Menzies (Bradford) also saying goodbye.

The 27-year-old is hoping his milestone game is a memorable one.

“It is everyone`s dream to play in a grand final, this being my second one and last game for the club and it will be good,” said Bryant.

“It`s a nice milestone and one that I will look back on later in life.

“I reckon I would trade 99 of them for a win.

“Hopefully it is a good omen (the 100 year anniversary) but I think we are the masters of our own destiny.

“If we`re going to do it, we have to get out there and put the effort in.”

Bryant joined Manly in 2005 after three tough years in Canberra where he struggled to crack first grade.

He credits the club and coach Des Hasler for making him a consistent first-grader and says he will leave Sydney with mixed emotions.

“I`m definitely a better player. Des has been a great coach and great manager of men. He definitely brought the best out in my football,” he said.

“It will be a bit emotional to say goodbye and move on. But I said this before, I will always be a Sea Eagle at heart.

“This week is my 100th game as well so I guess it will be good to go out on that note with a bunch of guys I love.”
