  • Man falls to death after being Tasered by police
  • Man was naked, ranting but only armed with light tube
  • Officers involved taken off New York streets

A NEW York man armed only with a fluorescent light tube has died after plunging from a second-storey ledge when he was Tasered by police.

Imam Morales, whose mother said was ill, was ranting and naked on a fire escape on a Brooklyn building as police tried to talk him down yesterday , the New York Post reported.

A police officer, acting on orders of a superior, fired at the 35-year-old as he waved the tube around, sending him plunging 3m headfirst off the fire escape.

"His body froze up and he fell face-first," said witness Sean Johnson.

Mr Morales died a few hours later in hospital, the Post said.

Police spokesman Paul Browne said a review was being carried out over whether officers followed protocol for Taser use.

A New York Police Department lieutenant was stripped of his gun and badge, and the officer who used the stun gun was put on desk duties, officials said.
