EMERGENCY services have been kept busy after a wild storm swept through southeast Queensland.
Emergency Management Queensland said firefighters were called in to rescue a 13-year-old boy who became stuck in a stormwater drain in the Ipswich suburb of Raceview during a downpour around 5.30pm (AEST) yesterday.
He was freed uninjured.
Meanwhile, volunteers were called out to more than 100 jobs, mainly in the Ipswich area and Brisbane Valley west of Brisbane, where hail and high winds damaged roofs, cars and skylights.
The Weather Bureau reported some substantial rainfalls, with 46mm at Bundamba near Ipswich and 34mm at Crows Nest on the Darling Downs.
Electricity distributor Energex said repair crews worked through the night to restore supplies to about 5200 homes and businesses, mostly in the Ipswich city area, Lockyer Valley, Brisbane Valley and the Gold Coast hinterland.
The storms had swept north from New South Wales into the Gold Coast hinterland area about 4pm (AEST) and slowly travelled northeast.
Energex said many thousands of lightning strikes were recorded, with gusting winds bringing down powerlines.
Fine conditions are forecast in southeast Queensland for the rest of the day, with light to moderate northwest to northeast winds, fresh about the coast in the afternoon and evening.
Late showers and storms are forecast again tomorrow.
