A MAN was stabbed to death and another man suffered severe head wounds after he was struck repeatedly in the head with a hammer following an argument at a restaurant in Sydney`s inner west last night.
The Daily Telegraph reports the drama unfolded in the kitchen at the rear of Lucky`s Pizza restaurant on King St Newtown shortly before 1am this morning.
Police were called to the scene following reports that a 60-year-old man had been hit several times in the head with a blunt instrument believed to be a hammer.
When they arrived at the restaurant, they discovered the injured man outside and the body of another man lying on the floor of the kitchen at the rear of the premises with a large knife protruding from the centre of his chest.
Ambulance officers worked frantically to save the stabbed man`s life but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital suffering from several severe blunt trauma wounds to the head and face.
A police guard has been mounted on the man who is expected to be questioned by Homicide detectives later today.
