AT least four people have been killed in a collision between a commuter train and a freight train in Los Angeles.
Firefighters battled a fire under part of the wreckage and pulled passengers from the commuter car, which was partly torn open.
Sheriff`s Deputy Byron Ward confirmed two deaths.
Early information from firefighters listed 23 people wounded including 10 seriously, three of whom remained inside the wreckage.
The trains collided at about 4.30pm (9.30am AEST) in the Chatsworth area of the San Fernando Valley.
