POLICE believe they have found the body of a four-year-old French girl allegedly stuffed in a suitcase and thrown in a river by her Israeli grandfather.
Ronie Ron, 45, had initially told police he had beaten Rose Pizam to death and put the body in a red suitcase which he hurled in the Yarkon river. He later retracted his confession.
Police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld said divers had found a suitcase and discovered bones inside.
He said the remains were being taken to a lab for identification.
Police have spent weeks searching for Rose after arresting Mr Ron and her mother, Marie-Charlotte Renaud, 23.
Mr Ron and Ms Renaud are lovers.
The sordid details of the case have horrified Israel, the Associated Press reported.
Israeli TV channels and radio stations interrupted their programming to go live with the discovery of the suitcase.
