European markets close down

EUROPEAN stock markets closed sharply lower on Friday as an early rebound gave way to growing concerns over a grim global economic outlook.
The London FTSE 100 index of leading shares fell 2.46 per cent. In Paris the CAC 40 plunged 3.33 per cent and in Frankfurt the DAX shed 2.20 per cent.
