New host ... Matthew White will fill the hole left by Anna Coren at Channel 7`sToday Tonight / Channel 7.
The move puts the first male presenter in Seven`s prime time current affairs slot since Stan Grant in 2000, and ends speculation that rising star Samantha Armytage would take the job.
White started his career at The Manly Daily before presenting breakfast news on Newcastle radio and moving into television, starting at Seven four years ago.
Seven media group chief executive officer David Leckie said White would "add a new dimension" to the evening current affairs show.
"He is familiar to millions of Australians through his network commitments, is part of a Logie Award winning team at 7 Sport and is undeniably one of the more versatile on-air people," he said.
White presented the network`s prime time Olympics coverage and has recently filled in on Sunrise.
Leckie said White had "done a brilliant job" since he joined the network as sports presenter in 2004.
White will continue to play a role in Seven`s coverage of major sport.
