A SEXUAL assault on a 10-year-old girl by an intruder who broke into her Melbourne bedroom was every parent`s worst nightmare, a judge says.
Stephen Maurice, 32, climbed through the front bedroom window of a family`s Sunshine house on October 15, 2007, the Victorian County Court heard today.
The victim, who had turned 10 just two weeks before, woke about 4am to find a hand in her bed rubbing her legs, stomach, bottom and vagina.
Maurice, of Sunshine, had climbed the ladder to the top bunk and assaulted the victim while her sister slept in the bunk below.
Judge Paul Lacava said the incident was "every parent`s worst nightmare".
Maurice, who lived just 50 metres away, has pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated burglary and one count of sexual penetration of a child under 16.
The pre-sentence hearing continues.
